Celebrate National Mai Tai Day with Us—Cheers to a Tropical Classic!
First crafted in 1944 by tiki pioneer Trader Vic in his Oakland restaurant, the original Mai Tai combined aged Jamaican rum, fresh lime, orange curacao, rock candy syrup, and French orgeat—shaken and served over shaved ice with mint and a lime wedge.
The name “Mai Tai” was inspired by a guest who, upon tasting it, exclaimed “Mai Tai-Roa Aé”—Tahitian for “out of this world—the best.” Since then, the drink has become an iconic symbol of island vibes, retro charm, and relaxed escapism.
